Officials in Broome County New York might be talking about a reported move of the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators to Belleville, however officials with the parent NHL team in Ottawa are not.
Even the Senators’ new Associate Coach, Belleville native Marc Crawford remains silent on negotiations. One of Crawford’s duties will be to work with the coaching staff of the Sens AHL affiliate. Crawford is in town for the Medigas Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament but would not confirm reports of a potential move of the B-Sens to the Yardmen Arena in 2017.
Belleville’s Director of Recreation, Culture and Community Services Mark Fluhrer says the city continues to have discussions with an unidentified entity and is encouraged by the process. Fluhrer adds he’s impressed with who they are dealing with and talks will continue.
Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher says the city has been in negotiations with an unnamed team for three months over which time it has been widely speculated that team is the Binghamton Senators. Christopher added nothing new following a special “In Camera” meeting of Belleville City Council on Monday.
