The man accused of multiple sex offences in what Belleville police are calling a major incident will remain behind bars for the time being.
Twenty-year-old Christopher Kelly appeared briefly by video before Justice of the Peace Lorraine Watson at the Quinte Consolidated courthouse Tuesday afternoon.
On Saturday night, officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the West Hill area and chased the suspect down after he ran from the scene.
Kelly was arrested and charged with obstructing police, sexual interference, two counts of sexual assault and three counts of breaching probation.
Tuesday, the short man with short brown hair and a dark bushy beard appeared wearing a white t-shirt. He stared straight ahead and gave only ‘yes’ answers when spoken to.
It was decided that Kelly’s detention order will remain until July 8 to see if a suitable surety can be found. He will appear back in court on Friday at 1 p.m.
