Canada Day celebrations in the City of Quinte West included a couple of surprises.
At the opening ceremonies, Mayor Jim Harrison announced that the biggest Trenton Golden Hawks fan around, Wayne Baril was chosen as the Citizen of the Year.
Meanwhile, the owner of the Trenton Golden Hawks hockey team John McDonald suprised Mayor Harrison as he announced his first overall draft pick.
Planning is already underway for major Canada Day celebrations for the country’s 150th birthday next summer.
