Quinte Search and Rescue may soon get some financial support from Hastings County.
On Thursday, Quinte search and Rescue presented Hastings County Council with a summary of its rescue work on the waters in the Quinte area.
Spokesperson Paul Kerwin says the unit responded to some of the highest number of rescue calls in the area.
He says, now, the unit needs two new motors for its main boat the Bruce A. Sutclife and a new secondary boat.
Kerwin says the motors will cost up to $60,000 and a new boat about $40,000.
Hastings County council referred the matter of a possible contribution to its finance committee in August.
Quinte Search and Rescue is a volunteer group with 20 members. Kerwin says the group was originally started by former Belleville city councillor the late Stu Meeks. He says they are trained to Canadian Coast Guard standards and train with Search and Rescue 424 Squadron at CFB Trenton.
