Over 100 local women made a big donation offering hope to women trying to flee abusive situations.
Wednesday, members of the group 100+ Women Who Care Quinte made a cheque presentation of $16,905 to Three Oaks Shelter at its second stage housing location in Belleville.
The Foundation has offered shelter and services to abused women and children in Belleville, Quinte West, Hastings County and Prince Edward County for 33 years.
A very thankful and teary eyed executive director Sandi Watson-Moyles said the funding will go towards the general operation of their second stage housing.
In 2015, 128 women and 85 children utilized Three Oaks services. The second-stage housing acts as a transition giving women and their children an opportunity to live for up to one year, with rent-geared-to-income.
Founding member of 100+ Women, Angela Sheppard admitted each presentation gives her goosebumps. She said this initiative has grown bigger and faster than she ever imagined now totaling 293 women with $60,000 donated in four meetings.
The group meets every three months voting on one out of three charities to donate to. Previous donations include $12,000 to the Youth Centre, $16,000 for Links to Learning and $17,000 to Bridge Street United Inn from the Cold Program.
The next meeting being hosted on the group’s one year anniversary is at the Greek Hall in Belleville.
