Seniors in the Quinte Region will be benefitting from over $23,000 in provincial funding.
Northumberland-Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi announced the funds today, which will be spread across the riding, from the Seniors Community Grant Program.
Among the investments are almost $3,000 for St. John’s Ambulance Northumberland, for seniors first aid programs, $6,600 for programming at the Campbellford Curling and Racquet Club and almost $3,000 for the Northumberland Elder Abuse Resource Network.
The funding supports local projects including:
· $2,882 for St. John’s Ambulance Northumberland for Seniors With First Aid, which will provide a workshop aimed at teaching seniors in Northumberland County the basics of first aid
· $6,660 for Campbellford and District Curling and Racquet Club for Trent Hills Activating Seniors Program, which will offer seniors the use of the facility for three months, including cardio and weight rooms, racquet courts and classes in yoga, fitness and curling
· $8,000 for Corporation of the Municipality of Port Hope for Celebrating the Seasons of Canada – Cultural Tours which will offer trips around the surrounding area of Port Hope to highlight cultural opportunities and celebrating the seasons (Lilac tour, festival of lights, etc.)
· $3,000 for Bridge Hospice for Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Retention Strategy for A renewed strategy to recruit, train and retain volunteers to augment our vital volunteer base for caregiving, special events and leadership; provide learning, sharing and networking opportunities; and engage rural seniors in building local community capacity for palliative care options
· $2,925 for Northumberland Elder Abuse Resource Network (NEARN) for Creating Action and Engagement: A Community Response to Elder Abuse – through collaborative engagement with seniors, social, health agencies and justice services, NEARN will develop an educational booklet to assist seniors at-risk.
