Belleville area job seekers should expect a modest hiring climate for the third quarter of 2016, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
“Survey data reveals that seven per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (July to September), while three per cent anticipate cutbacks,” stated Cathy McAllister of Manpower’s Belleville office. “The remaining 90 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter.”
“With seasonal variations removed from the data, Belleville’s third quarter Net Employment Outlook of one per cent is a 15 percentage point decrease from the previous quarterly Outlook,” said McAllister. “It is also a decrease of six percentage points from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a conservative hiring pace for the upcoming months.”
“Nationally, employment gains are expected to be modest in the third quarter,” said Darlene Minatel, Vice President, Manpower Canada Operations & Strategic Accounts. “However, we are seeing some bright spots. The Canadian dollar’s prolonged low has been good news for the manufacturing industry. Increased demand for Canadian exports is a big reason the manufacturing – durables sector is expecting the largest quarterly employment growth of any sector for Q3.”
