An emergency services report shows the incidence of heart attacks in the Hastings-Quinte area mainly involves male patients.
A lengthy report to the Joint Emergency Services committee shows that more than two-thirds of the cardiac arrest cases handled by paramedics last year involved male patients.
Acting chief John O’Donnell told the committee the statistics for 2015 show that out of the 302 cases handled 68.9% were male.
When questioned by Quinte West Councillor Dave McCue about the use of DNR or Do Not Resusitate cases, O’Donnell says the paramedics follow provincial rules and the wishes of the patients and families.
