If Quinte West council gives final approval, some taxpayer money will be heading to the victims of the horrible wildfires in and around Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee is recommending council donate $5,000, joining many other members of Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
Also, it’s being recommended that another $5,000 be granted to the volunteer non-profit organization Quinte Search and Rescue.
Councillor Don Kuntze says the 27 member group is providing an invaluable service to both residents and visitors alike.
It’s recommended council consider offering more money to the marine rescue unit for repairs to big outboard motors in next year’s budget discussions.
