(Tweed, ON) – On May 14, 2016 at 10:15 a.m. Central Hastings OPP conducted marine patrol on Stoco Lake in the Municipality of Tweed where a 52-year-old Smiths Falls man was charged with permitting a person to operate a pleasure craft without personal flotation device or lifejacket and a 54-year-old Kitchener man was charged with Consuming Liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place.
OPP are reminding boaters to have all the gear required by law for your vessel and its size.
Some may include:
– properly fitted lifejacket or PFD for everyone on board the vessel
– sound signaling device such as a whistle
– buoyant heaving line (at least 15 metres in length)
– watertight flashlight or Canadian approved flares (Type A, B, or C)
– paddle or other propelling device
– bail bucket or manual water pump
– Drinking alcohol and driving a boat is illegal and punishable under the Criminal Code of Canada.
