The devastating wildfires in Fort McMurray have prompted a massive relief effort in Quinte. Member of Provincial Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings Todd Smith says Operation Pack 4 Fort Mac started last week after he received a call from the owner of a local business.
“Max Haggerty of International Truckload Services on Bellevue Road called offering to send a big rig loaded with supplies to help everyone in Fort Mac. He just needed someone to help collect the items and figure out what those folks really need. Since then we’ve been coordinating with Belleville Firefighters, Alberta Emergency Measures, the Canadian Red Cross and organizers of the Furball’s Choice relief effort.” Smith stated.
Staff members at Smith’s constituency office are working with Belleville Firefighters to collect the following priority items for families in need.
– *Baby items (food, formula, diapers (sealed packages, especially sizes 3-5), wipes)
– *Blankets, pillows and towels (new, or clean and in good condition)
– *Toiletries (feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, hair brushes, hair ties, deodorant, tooth brushes) ALL MUST BE NEW
– Thick grey work socks (for firefighters)
