The Belleville Police Service responded to 65 calls for service between May 11th, 2016 at 5:00 a.m. and May 12th, 2016 at 5:00 a.m.
Intoxicated person
Belleville, Ontario – On May 11th, 2016, at 2:48 p.m. officers attended on the south side of the tracks on South Front St. in relation to a male passed out on the ground. A 50 year old Belleville man was arrested for his own protection under the Liquor Licence Act. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for being intoxicated in a public place.
Aggressive Salespersons
Belleville, Ontario – On May 11th, 2016, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. police were flooded with calls in relation to aggressive salespersons going door-to-door. The salespersons were determined to enter people’s homes to examine furnaces and air conditioning units. Four groups were located by officers – Village Drive and Bridge Street West in the west end: Herchimer Ave and Russell Street in the east end. The company, which was based out of Toronto, was legitimate. However, the company had not registered with City Hall. As a result the soliciting persons were charged under the City By-law for “operating a trade or business without a licence”. All soliciting ended at this point.
A short time later an officer recognized one of these groups in a vehicle. The driver had been confirmed earlier as a suspended driver. The vehicle was stopped and a 24 year old Mississauga man was charged with “driving while under suspension”. He will appear in Traffic Court on May 30th, 2016.
Citizens are reminded that these salespersons do not have the right to enter any home.
