A controversial issue has been settled for Frankford area residents.
If Quinte West council gives final approval, the speed limit on a 2 kilometre stretch of Frankford Road just east of Flyboy road will go up to 80 kmh from the current 60.
Hundreds of residents had complained that the 60 kilometre limit was too slow and was causing dangerous passing.
The stretch from Collins Road east to Flyboy will remain 60 kmh.
Two mobile flashing speed signs will be purchased at a cost of over $9,000 and placed on Frankford Road and some of it will become a Community Safety Zone where fines would be double the usual for speeders.
A double yellow line will be painted on the road from Collins to Rose Road to indicate drivers shouldn’t be passing.
Several Frankford area residents attended yesterday’s (Tuesday) Quinte West Public Works Committee meeting and all were in favour of the recommendations made in a report by Public Works Director Chris Angelo.
Director Angelo will be bringing a report on a policy regarding how speed limit issues are dealt with by the city in the near future.
