Space enthusiasts will be able to check out a rare sight on tomorrow (Monday), with the help of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada’s Belleville chapter.
The planet Mercury will transit across the face of the sun, between 7:15 a.m. and 2:40 p.m., something that only happens 14 times every 100 years.
Local RASC rep David Billo tells Quinte News, before major advancements in technology, these transit events were keys to learning about space.
Billo says you can’t see the transit without a telescope and special filter, so don’t stare at the sun and try, as it could case severe damage to your eyes.
If you do want to check it out, society members will be at Belleville’s Market Hall through the morning, with a couple of telescopes.
