What a night it was in Trenton last night.
1,200 screaming fans witnessed their hockey team, the Trenton Goldenhawks, being crowned as the Ontario Junior Hockey League champions.
The Goldenhawks managed to beat a very good Georgetown Raiders team 2 to 1 last night, and took the Buckland Cup in 5 games.
The series’ most valuable player was Trenton’s goaltender, Daniel Urbani.
Urbani played for Kingston last year and lost in the final. He’s glad he got traded.
Meanwhile, Goldenhawk player Ben Scheel credited the team’s coach, Jerome Dupont.
And, for his part, Coach Dupont, credited the opposition.
The last team from Trenton to win a junior hockey championship was the Trenton Bobcats in 1980.
The Goldenhawks now wait to play in the Dudley Hewitt Cup, which starts early next month in Kirkland Lake.
