A long time beach clothing shop could be ordered to take down its signage as it doesn’t flow with the heritage streetscape and violates Prince Edward County’s sign bylaw.
At Thursday’s committee of the whole meeting, Beach Bum in the County owner Cynthia Nicholls had her requests for a heritage permit and for a facade coverage increase denied in a vote of 7-6.
Nicholls says she recently moved her shop next door from where the former Beach Bum had been and she had a new sign made to go with the new store.

The heritage committee and staff suggested that the sign be made smaller and the colours a paler shade of yellow and blue.
Mayor Robert Quaiff voted in favour of the denial citing it reflected the guidelines in the heritage plan.
Beach Bum has been in the County for 25 years.
The matter will come back to council for a final decision.
