The Poverty Roundtable of Hastings and Prince Edward counties and the Community Development Council of Quinte have joined together to launch a new program to fight poverty.
It’s about developing an overall strategic plan.
The partners have received a three-year grant from the Trillium Foundation worth $334,400 to support the program called Creating Community.
Partner developer JoAnne Lewis says staff will be hired and will work closely with agencies and businesses as well.
Hastings Prince Edward MPP Todd Smith, on hand for the announcement, says the area has the highest incidence of food insecurity in the province and the Community Development Council does a good job of helping people.
