The fundraising season for the Canadian Cancer Society kicks off tomorrow and the Belleville Fire Department is challenging the community to get involved in fundraising initiatives.
Daffodil Month, held every April, is a national fundraising campaign of the Canadian Cancer Society. During the month, volunteers are involved in numerous activities to raise vital funds for the fight against cancer.
Belleville Deputy Fire Chief Ray Ellis has been a long time supporter and plans to bring public attention to the cancer risks faced by firefighters in their work every day.
As a regular participant in Society fundraisers and awareness events Ray has personally raised over $80,000 for the work of the Canadian Cancer Society.
In 2005, he made a solo bicycle ride from Belleville to Edmonton., and he has regularly participated in Spin-a-Thon events, The Road to Relay and Daffodil Days for the Society.
Ellis and the Belleville Fire Department will be challenging other fire departments, staff groups and businesses throughout our areas to host a workplace fundraising event in support of the Canadian Cancer Society this April. For more details go to www.cancer.ca/fundraise
Smylies Independent in Trenton and Dewes Independent in Belleville who will selling fresh cut and potted daffodils in their locations from March 31 to April 17 with $2 from every sale coming back to the Canadian Cancer Society.
