It seems Quinte West Council is still supportive of bringing a film festival to the city in 2017, but after a recorded vote, it won’t hand out as much cash as first thought.
Original plans called for the city to give $100,000 to some national film festival organizers, to bring a large-scale event to the city, but now the amount has been reduced to $25,000.
Trenton Councillor Duncan Armstrong voted against the motion, not because he’s against the film festival idea, but because he thinks a bigger investment should have been made.
By a vote of 7-4, with two absent, council did decide to form a film festival committee to look into some sort of film festival next year.
But a councillor still has to be named to the committee, along with some members of the public and film industry experts.
