Some bad news for residents of Brighton as the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Board of Health has decided to close the health unit office there.
The decision was made at today’s board of health meeting and will come into effect on June 30, 2016, and is expected to save the health unit close to $115,000.
Dr. Lynn Noseworthy tells Quinte News, it’s another case of the government freezing budget increases for health units across the province, so they’re adapting.
And she says other than a lack of a physical office in Brighton, residents won’t notice much of an affect on services.
Dr. Noseworthy says they’re also working with the local school board, to host classes and group sessions out of East Northumberland Secondary School.
The health unit is also planning a series of public information sessions, so residents can ask questions and find out a little bit more about how things are changing and why.
