Gun calls
The Belleville Police Service received a 911 call at 5:48 a.m. on Sunday 13 March 2016 from a female motorist reporting that she was traveling in her vehicle on Cannifton Road north of College Street when a man jumped in front of her vehicle and pointed a handgun directly at her. She was successful at evading the suspect and driving away without being further attacked or injured and then immediately called 911.
While police units were enroute a second 911 call was received from a second motorist reporting she also had a handgun wielding suspect jump in front of her in the middle of Cannifton Road further up the road and that she also got away without being further attacked or injured.
A responding patrol officer spotted the suspect and a foot chase ensued through backyards with the suspect throwing away the weapon along the way. The suspect was finally subdued by deployment of a Taser on Johnson Street after not following Officer commands while being held at gunpoint.
The Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Team and a K9 Unit from the Ontario Provincial Police were activated for a ground search and the weapon was later located along the foot chase path.
A 21-year-old Belleville man is held for a bail hearing on Monday and is facing charges of: pointing a firearm (two counts), carry a concealed weapon and weapons dangerous to the public peace.
Knife-Point Robbery / Home Invasion with Bear Spray
The Belleville Police Service received several 911 calls at 8:56 a.m. on Sunday 13 March, 2016, reporting a disturbance in the North Park Street area and that a person had been attacked with bear spray. The first arriving police units determined that a home invasion occurred with a knife being displayed at a 32-year-old woman in the residence who was not injured and a 39-year-old man who was then attacked with “bear spray” and was later treated by EMS on scene.
Responding Patrol Officers located the suspect moments later on North Front Street near Bell Blvd where he was taken into custody without further incident.
A 21-year-old Belleville man is being held for a bail hearing on Monday and is charged with: robbery, unlawfully in a dwelling, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous to the public peace (two counts), possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
