Less than 24 hours after shots were fired inside of Belleville’s Quinte Secondary School, before the downtown RBC was robbed, police and Hastings Prince Edward School Board officials held a press conference to address the situation.
Speaking first and updating the investigation, Inspector Mike Callaghan stressed that they don’t think anyone at the school was targeted.
Inspector Callaghan went on to say that these type of “distraction tactics” are rare for a small community and that forensic evidence had been collected at both scenes and sent for analysis.
He was also asked if investigators felt the suspect was from the local area or not.
Principal Liane Woodley and Director of Education Mandy Savery-Whiteway also spoke about the incident from their perspective.
Woodley praised staff and students for how they handled the situation and thanked the local police force for their quick response.
Investigators have set up a dedicated tip line, as they continue to look for the suspect connected to both the school and the RBC robbery.
If you have information on these incidents you can call that tip line at 613-966-5667 and leave a message, or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
