While they were naturally ready to help, the Wing Commander at CFB Trenton says it may not be a bad thing that the base didn’t end up hosting Syrian refugees.
While appearing on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Thursday morning Colonel Colin Keiver was asked whether or not he saw the money spent on winterization work on the cadet camp, in preparation of the refugee arrival, as a waste.
Keiver says 8 Wing is a lot better off now that those modifications have been made.
Colonel Keiver also gave an update on the ongoing construction work at 8 Wing.
He says the new fire hall and hangars are set to open soon it’s incredible to see how much the facilities have changed from the original buildings, built in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s.
And Colonel Keiver also discussed the upcoming Quinte International Air Show and even leaked a newly-added act.
He says an allied air force is sending one of its most well-known and reliable aircraft to put on display.
Other already confirmed acts for the air show include the Snowbirds, the CF-18 Hornet Demonstration Team and more.
Tickets go on sale at the start of April and organizers are expecting tens-of-thousands of people to attend the June event.
And when asked about the toughest part of running Canada’s largest air force base, Keiver says it’s the fact that he’s going to have to leave the Quinte Region in 2017 to take on a new post.
