It was a sweeter-than-usual day at Donini Chocolate in Belleville today.
That’s because Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Jeff Leal was on hand, to announce a $127,00 investment in the company, which will create jobs and help the company expand operations.
Leal tells Quinte News, Donini is exactly the type of company the Liberal Government wants to invest in.
Donini’s Operation’s Manager Tom Copping, says the money has already been used to hire five more staff members and update equipment, to give the plant more flexibility, when it comes to the types of treats being made.
And Copping says the upgrades will also help Donini continue to be one of the most unique chocolate-makers in the very competitive industry.
Outside of what’s produced for use in-house, Copping says Donini also shipped four million pounds of liquid chocolate out of the facility, last year alone.
He says that’s also led to the signing of a new contract with a major retailer in the United States.
