It’s been a long time since CFB Trenton hosted a major air show, but the 2016 Quinte International Air Show has been cleared for take off.
8 Wing will host the show on June 25th and 26th, to commemorate the British Commonwealth Training Plan, from the Second World War.
As part of that plan, thousands of allied pilots were trained in Air Force City.
Base Commander Colonel Colin Keiver tells Quinte News, it’s a chance to build on the already strong relationship between 8 Wing and the community.
And Mayor Jim Harrison adds, that while it’s great news for local residents, plans are also in the works to welcome thousands of tourists.
Those plans include setting up a temporary camp ground and RV park near the base and promoting the use of the Trent Port Marina as well.
Among the many aircraft and acts to perform, are the Skyhawks Parachute Team, who are based at 8 Wing.
Captain Jake Porter says the team is looking forward to the opportunity of jumping in front of many familiar faces.
Other acts already booked include the Snowbirds, the CF-18 Demonstration Team and Rick Volker in his RCAF Harvard.
