A local minister, who represents a group of churches from Tweed to Prince Edward County, is puzzled about why he isn’t allowed to make a deputation to Belleville city council.
Reverend David Mundy had planned to urge city councillors to consider the social impacts of the newly-approved casino and to develop a strategy to deal with any problems that may arise.
But Mundy tells Quinte News after being denied to speak on the night of the casino decision, attempts to apply for a meeting further down the road were turned down as well.
The minister says his group understands the facility has been approved, but council really should be getting ahead of any social issues, like problem gambling.
Mundy says it’s great that companies like Great Canadian Game and the OLG funnel money back into the community, but more needs to be done.
Meanwhile, several city councillors have tweeted they would support voting to allow Reverend Mundy to speak at council Monday.
Councillor Jack Miller.
Quinte News has reached out to Mayor Taso Christopher and we’re awaiting his comments.
