Another increase in the number of people collecting welfare in Hastings County.
Figures released by the county’s social services department show the caseload went up by 25 in March to 36-hundred. The number was up by 6.7 per cent from March, 2009. Deputy Director Steve Gatward told the committee meeting yesterday the increase was offset by a rise in the number of people finding employment. One-hundred-and-sixty-five people were placed in jobs through the Job Connect program last month, compared to 105 in February.
