The bylaw has been approved and the question about the size of Prince Edward County Council will be on a ballot in this year’s municipal election.
County Council voted in favour of the bylaw last night, putting the issue in the hands of voters next October. The question asks them if they are in favour of council commencing a public consultation process to review the size of council. Prince Edward has 15 councillors, compared to eight in Belleville and 12 in Quinte West. Fifty per cent of the eligible voters will have to cast ballots for the results to be binding, and over half of those votes would have to be in favour.
