The Belleville police Services board set its 2016 budget at a special meeting last night..
The board went through the budget line byline, finally approving a $16.4 million budget, a 2.63% increase over last year.
Police Chief Cory MacKay told the board most of that goes to a hike in staff salaries.
Mayor Taso Christopher, who is also chair the board, was pleased with the figures.
The budget included an 8% increase in spending on vehicles and $1 million for the new police building reserve fund.
It now goes to city council budget deliberations in the spring.
