Unless there is a huge surprise at Belleville councils meeting Monday, construction of the “Shorelines Casino Belleville” should begin soon.
Representatives from Great Canadian Gaming and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation will make presentations to council.
Council will be asked to sign off on a municipality contribution agreement with Great Canadian Gaming, and council will be asked to remove a “hold” to allow the casino to be built at 380 Bell Boulevard, on the north side of the road, beside the Towneplace Suites by Marriott hotel.
Clearing of that property began a few weeks ago.
The casino, if successful, would transfer millions of dollars to the City of Belleville.
Under the contribution agreement, the city would receive 5.25 % of slot machine revenue up to $65 million, 3 % of revenues over $65 million and under $200 million, 2.5% of revenue more than $200 million, and .5% of revenues over $500 million.
