Traffic enforcement
Belleville, Ontario – On January 19th, 2016 at 2:21 p.m. an officer was working on a radar assignment on Airport Parkway when he clocked a vehicle at 126 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The 57 year old Belleville man was charged with “stunt driving” and will appear in Traffic Court on February 22nd, 2016. His driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days; his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
On January 19th, 2016, at 3:11 p.m. an officer was working on a radar assignment on Highway 2 East and stopped a vehicle for speeding. A further check revealed that the 35 year old Belleville man was a suspended driver. He will appear in Traffic Court on charges of driving while under suspension and speeding. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
Impaired Driver
Belleville, Ontario – On January 19th, 2016 at 10:16 p.m. officers attended on Albert Street as a pick-up truck had struck a hydro pole. According to witnesses, the truck reversed from the pole only to get stuck in a snowbank. The truck was stopped on Albert Street and the driver was arrested for impaired driving. A small amount of cocaine of seized from the driver. Robert Wapshaw, 35 years of age, of Belleville, will appear in court on February 4th, 2016 on charges of impaired driving, over 80 mgs., possession of cocaine and breach of probation. The pole was not damaged while the truck suffered extensive front end damage. The driver was not injured.
Accidents
Belleville, Ontario – On January 19th, 2016, at 5:05 p.m. police attended on West Moira Street at Wallbridge Crescent as a cyclist had struck a van. The cyclist had lost control while coming down the hill. The cyclist, a Belleville woman, was treated and released at BGH for minor injuries. No charges were laid.
On January 19th, 2016, at 7:18 p.m. police attended on Dundas Street West at Baybridge Road in relation to a two-car accident. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. A 51- year old Belleville woman was charged with making an unsafe turn. There were no injuries.
Fraud
Belleville, Ontario – On January 19th, 2016 police were contacted by a woman who wished to report a fraud. She advised that she received a personal e-mail advising that her CIBC bank accounts were frozen. She was to provide her personal banking information through a website that was provided. The woman advised that she does not bank at the CIBC. People are reminded not to divulge personal information.
