The National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco visited the Quinte region today (mon), to talk about what’s called the “Contraband Trail”.
The trail is the 401 corridor, which has the highest rate of contraband use in Canada.
Gary Grant, a long time Toronto police officer, visited with Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher, to talk about the smokes, which are alleged to be connected to gang violence and human trafficking.
Grant says organized crime is involved with some manufacturers on First Nations Land.
Recent cigarette butts tested in Belleville suggest 33 percent of tobacco smokes in the city is contraband tobacco.
