The Hastings-Prince Edward Health Unit is warning people about an illness that was almost forgotten about.
Doctor Schabas told the Board of Health meeting yesterday the mumps vaccine people receive as infants isn’t perfect, so people between 18 and 35 are at risk, because they had only one shot as a child. He says people in that age range should get a booster shot through the Health Unit or their family doctor. People over 35 are protected from mumps because they would have had the disease when they were children. Anyone under 18 would have received two doses of vaccine.
