Two men have pleaded guilty to illegally dumping industrial waste sludge from the Trenton Norampac plant onto agricultural land south of Frankford. Today’s Intell reports Ronald Charlton of Cannifton and his company, Industrial Enviro Solutions, and Robert Braun, president of Braunco Inc of Tillsonburg, pleaded guilty to three charges under the Environmental Assessment Act. A remorseful Charlton would only say that “everything has been cleaned up” and “no harm has been done to the environment.” In the summer of 2007, Charlton and Braun dumped 69 loads of the sludge into trenches in the 50-acre property off Harrington Road and another 262 loads to an illegal dump in Tillsonburg. The sludge contained significant quantities of dioxins, furans and heavy metals. The Ministry of Environment is seeking jail time. A date for sentencing will be set on April 27th.
