A Belleville man is off to a rough start in 2016, after police say he stole a car and ran from them on Monday morning.
OPP officers tried to stop a speeding Kia Soul on the eastbound 401 in Tyendinega Township, around 10:30 a.m., but the driver kept going, exited the highway and headed north on County Road 49 in Marysville.
A few minutes later, police say the driver slid through the intersection at Waddingham Road and into a ditch and ran from the car.
An officer found him coming out of the woods a short time later.
27 year-old Joshua Gjelstad is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, flight from police, dangerous driving, driving without a license and stunt driving.
Investigators also found some crystal meth and marijuana on him, so he’s also charged with drug possession.
