Temperatures around the region have certainly plummeted over the past few days and ice has formed on local waterways, but Quinte Conservation is warning you to stay off it for now.
Spokesperson Jennifer May Anderson says the environmental agency has issued a Water Safety Statement, warning about unstable ice conditions across the watershed.
And, May-Anderson adds, you should keep an extra close eye on children as well, since even the shallowest ponds and ditches can lead to trouble.
This Water Safety Statement is in place until Jan. 8.
