A swearing-in ceremony for a new inspector today, at Quinte Regional Courthouse, has launched the long-term succession plan for Belleville Police Service.
Inspector Michael Callaghan was sworn in as part of the plan that has Chief Cory MacKay retire in January 2017, Deputy Chief Ron Gignac become chief and Callaghan step into the deputy’s shoes.
Chief MacKay says Inspector Callaghan will work on major initiatives.
Callaghan, who has a long service with Ottawa police and two deployments with federal departments, says he’ll work closely on the business plan.
With the Ottawa police, Callaghan served on a number of units, including criminal investigations, youth, guns and gangs and critical incidents.
