A lot of local contractors will be working this summer on improvements to the Tweed Arena.
C-A-O Patricia Bergeron says the General Contractor, Morden Engineering, and Council approved the 19 local subtrades for the 435-thousand-dollar project. About 80 per cent of that amount will be spent on enlarging dressing rooms, making washrooms, the entrance and hallways accessible, and upgrading the electrical, plumbing and heating systems. The rest will go for construction management and other expenses. Bergeron says all but two of the subtrades are Quinte-area based companies, with the others from Kingston and Barrie. The work will begin next month, and should be completed before the ice goes back in in September.
