Prince Edward County Council had the Coyote bounty issue in it’s cross-hairs last night, and depending on your viewpoint, Council either hit the mark, or shot blanks. First County Council voted against a 10 thousand dollar proposal to pay licensed trappers to go after problem coyotes. Then Council voted on the main bounty by-law, which included 30 thousand dollars, to be parcelled out at 100 dollars per carcass. That plan won’t happen…the bounty motion lost by a tie vote…6 to 6. Councillor Peggy Burris thought they should have tried a compensation program for a year. Meanwhile, Councillor Brian Marisett, was pleased with no bounty, saying there was no evidence they worked to reduce predator populations. Councillors Ray Best, Laverne Bailey, Diane O’Brien, and Richard Parks were not at the meeting.
