A 40-year-old woman with no fixed address faces assault and assaulting a peace officer charges after a violent incident in Belleville Friday.
City police say a woman walking in the area of Church Street and Bridge Street East was approached by an unknown woman who was yelling at her to die and who then proceeded to punch the victim in the head.
The incident occurred just after noon.
Police were called and located a suspect who spit on officers during the arrest. Safety precautions were taken because it was known the suspect was a carrier of a communicable disease.
She was held for a bail hearing.
