Belleville Police have made an arrest in connection with a sexual assault that occurred almost 25 years ago.
On July 9, 2000, police began an investigation after attending a business in the city’s west end and receiving a report that a female had been sexually assaulted.
During the initial investigation, police were unable to identify the suspect.
The investigation continued over the years and on Wednesday, members of the Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from the Drugs and Intelligence Unit, Emergency Response Unit and Forensic Identification Section arrested 53-year-old William Dale of Keswick.
Dale was charged with sexual assault, assault and theft.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing on Thursday.
