The City of Belleville’s Economic Development division has released results from its survey regarding the impacts of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on businesses exporting to the US.
On March 4, the city sent out a survey asking for businesses to lay out the anticipated impacts and expected changes in response to the tariffs.
So far, the city has received 29 responses.
For anticipated impacts, 17 responses, or nearly 74% of businesses, said that they expect an increase in costs for materials/products. Fourteen businesses say they also are anticipating decreased customer demand due to higher prices.
Expected changes saw more variety in responses, with the top answers being tied. There were 12 responses each for exploring new suppliers or alternative sourcing options, and delaying planned business expansions or investment.
The survey remains active with a link being found at the City of Belleville’s website.
