In a fantastic display of teamwork both on and off the ice, the Quinte Red Devils hockey teams netted a generous donation of $13,060 for the Belleville General Hospital Foundation at their Annual Banquet held at the National Airforce Museum, Trenton. This major league effort will assist the Dr. Douglas A. Macintosh Oncology Clinic at Quinte Health Belleville General Hospital in its goal to combat cancer.
The U10, U11, and U12 squads were collectively awarded the Golden Heart Award, applauding their hat trick of fundraising creativity through bake sales, raffles, a golf tournament, and the sale of bespoke jerseys. These young players have not only been passing pucks but also passing on hope to those in need, demonstrating their championship spirit.
Highlighting the roster of young fundraisers was Kai Mackie, who paddled his way to raising over $1,500 by collecting cans in a canoe around a local lake. Inspired by his grandfather’s battle with cancer, Kai’s solo drive mirrored the endurance and determination found in both his sporting and fundraising efforts. James Andrews, a parent at the forefront of these initiatives, shared his enthusiasm: “I’m bursting with pride over the kids’ commitment. They’ve shown a stellar team effort that transcends the rink—these kids are truly in a league of their own when it comes to giving back.”
Steven Cook, Executive Director of the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, reflected on the impact of these young philanthropists: “These remarkable young athletes have shown they can skate circles around any challenge, turning their energy into impactful fundraising. Witnessing such strong community and family spirit in action reminds us all how teamwork can lead to victories in healthcare.”
This event was a heartwarming reminder of the power of community and the incredible potential of our youth to influence positive change. Through their impressive efforts, these young players are not just winning games; they’re making life-changing assists in the lives of many.
