A project to replace a shed for the Prince Edward County Soccer Association has become a project of community interest.
During Tuesday’s Prince Edward County Council meeting, council received a deputation from the president of the soccer association, David Walcott, about their plans to replace their storage shed at their soccer fields in Picton with a new structure.
The current shed has been on the property for over 50 years and came with the land when the association acquired it. The old shed was built in a low area which was subject to flooding, and has deteriorated severely over the years, allowing squirrels to move in and making it a target for vandals.
The new shed is intended to offer secure, climate-controlled storage, with space for a concession stand and adjacent restroom facilities. The association is also looking at installing security cameras.
During the deputation, council was asked for municipal support in building a new storage shed. After brief discussion by councillors, a motion was passed to officially make the shed replacement a project of community interest.
The association is a registered not-for-profit that operates multiple soccer leagues in Prince Edward County.
