Prince Edward County is preparing to purchase a set of buses.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, council voted to approve the purchase of three new buses. The new buses will be gas- or diesel-powered, and are being funded fully by grants from the provincial and federal governments.
The buses include one 18-seat bus with bike racks, to replace one being used on the Picton to Belleville route, along with a five to eleven seat van, and a five to eleven seat accessible bus to be used for on-demand transit services across Prince Edward County.
Diesel and gas vehicles are being considered due to the lack of electric infrastructure available, and the distance the vehicles would need to cover.
