Ontario Provincial Police Staff Sergeant Hatch, along with Councillor Chris Braney, delivered the 2024 annual report from the PEC OPP Detachment board to council during Tuesday’s meeting.
During the presentation, Hatch highlighted the implementation of the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, which includs working with local social services to address issues in the area.
“We couldn’t police our way out of our community problems,” said Hatch. “We had to work upstream, to use the terminology in the Community Safety Well-Being Plan. We had to try to fix the problems within society because the police couldn’t do it by ourselves.”
The report also showed recent crime statistics indicating that violent crime is dropping over time, and that the local highways are some of the safest in the province.
Council accepted the report for information and took no other action.
