The Conservative candidate for the Bay of Quinte riding in the 2025 federal election, Ryan Williams, was the latest guest on The Lorne Brooker Show on 800 CJBQ for the Meet the Candidates series.
On the show, Williams addressed the report of someone or a group purchasing several website addresses featuring Liberal candidate Chris Malette’s name that would redirect to Williams campaign website.
Williams and his campaign denied any involvement with the website redirection.
He tells The Lorne Brooker Show that it’s a “dirty trick.”
“It’s bad for all accounts. It’s bad for all actors. I’ll tell you right now, as soon as we got this, Elections Canada was notified, the commissioner for Elections Canada who handles this, but also cyber crimes and RCMP. So I’m going to the fullest extent,” Williams said.
Williams says what happened was election interference and there is no gain for anyone by doing this.
A question was asked about comparisons made between Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and US President Donald Trump.
Williams says those comparisons are causing a division when the country should be unified.
“Never, ever, should you be comparing someone who’s putting tariffs in our country, threatening us economically and more importantly, saying we should be the 51st state with a candidate who’s saying ‘Canada First’ meaning we’re going to put our jobs, our workers in our country first,” Williams tells The Lorne Brooker Show.
“That divide that I hear at the door is the division caused by the Liberal Party and by its candidate, not by the candidates going out to say, hey, here’s the 29 policy proposals that will be pitched right now.”
