The Cobourg Police Service Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) for April is focusing on speeding violations.
The initiative aims to address speeding on Town of Cobourg roads and enhance the safety of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
The April STEP program will concentrate on reducing speeding incidents through a comprehensive approach that includes engagement, education, and enforcement. CPS is committed to fostering a culture of responsible driving and compliance with traffic laws to create safer roads for everyone.

Speeding violations can result in substantial fines and demerit points, impacting a driver’s record and insurance premiums.
Demerit points start at three points at 16km/h over the posted speed limit.
Provincial fines start at $17.50 and go up to $10,000, and up to six months in jail for a speed-related offences such as stunt driving.
Fines are doubled in school and community safety zones, including construction zones where workers are present.
