Tracey Sweeney Schenk, who is running for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Hastings Lennox Addington – Tyendinaga riding, spoke on The Lorne Brooker Show’s Meet the Candidates segment on Thursday.
Sweeney Schenk explained her background, and talked about her history in finance working as a stock broker, working in the marketing department of a banking firm, being a small business owner, and working as a certified financial planner.
It was noted the she lives in Port Hope, outside of the riding.
The Liberal candidate was asked about her knowledge of the Hastings, Lennox & Addington-Tyendinaga riding, and she says there are a lot of similarites to that riding and the riding she lives in.
“We are a mixed urban-rural, where the urban portion of it is small towns, small villages, and the rural is very agricultural. We have some manufacturing, but not as much as we used to have. So we’ve experienced job losses in Northumberland-Clarke, the way that Hastings, Lennox and Addington-Tyendinaga have experienced this. So it’s not a huge leap,” Sweeney Schenk explained to Quinte News.
When asked about her values, Sweeney Schenk says she believes in the benefits of the greater good which includes a certain measure of social assistance programs.
“That’s what all of these projects did, they essentially took the principles of a basic minimum living wage and gave it to people,” she explained.
The effect of that, that people don’t realize, we all see the deficit. We all see that, but what they don’t realize is the personal costs that were mitigated by these programs.”
