A hydro worker attempting to restore power to the area, was threatened by an upset area resident.
On Wednesday April 2, Peterborough County OPP received a call from an individual stating that they had just been threatened by an unknown person.
Officers attended and spoke with the complainant who is a member of one of the crews working to restore power to the area. The complainant advised that they were at the side of the road completing some paperwork when a dark-coloured SUV stopped beside them. The driver spoke to the complainant and stated that if the power wasn’t restored to their house by that evening, they would be coming after the hydro worker to cause them harm. The complainant, although not wanting to proceed with charges, contacted the police to ensure it was reported.
Peterborough County OPP understand that area residents still experiencing power outages are feeling frustrated and upset but remind individuals that making threats can be considered a criminal offence and will not be tolerated. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, ‘Uttering Threats’ can be punishable by a term of between two and five years imprisonment.
Over the past week, Peterborough County has seen hundreds, if not thousands, of hydro workers from near and far working tirelessly around the clock to help restore power to the community. The conditions they have been working in have been less than favourable because of weather conditions and working around and through debris from the storm. Peterborough County OPP, along with most members of the community appreciate the hard work and dedication being shown by these workers and will continue to support their efforts.
